Between the Altar and the Crown – Intrigues, Betrayals and the Fight for the Throne

2 hours

Easy

Private round-trip transfer from Krakow to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. Door-to-door service from your hotel or apartment, timed to your museum entry slot.

We begin at the Franciscan Basilica, where Prince Bolesław the Chaste is buried. We will also hear about his close relatives – his sister Salomea, venerated as a saint, and his wife King(a), whose cult lives on to this day. Next, we visit the Dominican Church, built by Bishop Iwo Odrowąż for his brother Hyacinth, one of the first Dominican saints of worldwide renown. Finally, at the grand Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, we learn how the eloquence of the Jesuits could bend even kings to their will.

We will also reveal shocking clashes between monarchs and bishops – tales of exiles, excommunications, and backroom deals. Could the power of the altar and the crown lie within the same family? Yes – because sometimes, bishops were the king’s own brothers!

This is more than a walk through Kraków’s churches – it is a story of intrigue, ambition, and secrets that could outshine any modern political drama.
