Shadows of Krakow – a walk where the living meet the dead
When night falls over Krakow, the city sheds its daily mask and reveals its darker, hidden face. Shadows grow deeper, and familiar places begin to pulse with mystery.
During a 2.5-hour evening walk – from the mighty walls of the Barbican to the surroundings of the Bernardine Church – we will step into a world of stories that have fascinated locals for centuries. We will cross the ancient boundary between the living and the dead, discover where the city executioner once lived, and learn where the gallows once stood.
We will pause at a monument that does not depict who passers-by believe it does. At St. Mark’s Church, we will hear tales of restless souls — spirits said to still wander the area to this very day.
On the Main Square, no fewer than five extraordinary stories await us – including the most unsettling of all, about anti-vampiric burials unearthed by archaeologists. Along the route, we will also revisit echoes of witch trials, the legend of a townsman struck blind in an instant, and accounts of ghosts that dared to haunt even sacred walls. Our journey will end at the site of an ancient pagan idol – a place where magic and faith have intertwined for centuries in a sinister dance.
Mystical Krakow is a walk offered only after nightfall – and a promise of shivers you will never forget.
Bonus: each participant will receive a recipe for a real Devil’s Elixir.
