Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour from Krakow
Licensed guide · Round-trip transport · Pre-booked entry ticket
The Wieliczka Salt Mine tour from Krakow is one of the most visited experiences in Poland — and with good reason. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has been continuously operated since the 13th century, stretching across nine levels and 300 kilometres of tunnels. A licensed local guide leads you through the most spectacular chambers, explaining the history of Polish salt mining and the legends that shaped it.
The tourist route covers 3.5 kilometres at a depth of 64 to 135 metres underground. You descend 380 steps at the start and return to the surface by lift. Along the way you pass through 20 chambers featuring salt sculptures, underground lakes, and one of the most remarkable sights in Europe — the Chapel of the Blessed Kinga, a fully functioning church carved entirely from salt, 100 metres below the surface.
Round-trip transport from central Krakow is included. Pre-booked entry tickets mean no queuing at the ticket office on arrival.

What You'll See
The Chapel of the Blessed Kinga — entirely carved from salt, 101 metres below ground.
The Chapel of the Blessed Kinga is the centrepiece of the tour. Located 101 metres underground, the chapel was carved entirely from rock salt by miners over three generations. The chandeliers, the altar, and the bas-relief carvings on the walls — all salt. It remains a consecrated church and hosts regular religious services to this day.
The tourist route takes you through 20 chambers across three levels, from 64 to 135 metres below the surface. You walk 3.5 kilometres of tunnels, passing through the Copernicus Chamber with its full-size salt sculpture of the astronomer, underground saline lakes with their eerie green light, original 13th-century mining equipment, and timber constructions that have held up the tunnels for centuries.

The Copernicus Chamber houses a life-size salt statue of Nicolaus Copernicus, carved in 1973. Alongside it, the Erazm Barącz Chamber features a dramatic staircase carved from solid salt. Each room has its own history and a story your guide will bring to life.
At the end of the route you return to the surface by lift from Level 3 — no need to climb back up the 800 steps.
